The natural history and early treatment of proximal femoral dysplasia.

چکیده
Proximal femoral dysplasia (proximal femoral focal deficiency) in early infancy is characterised by considerable shortening in association with a stable hip which is freely mobile from a position of some fixed flexion and lateral rotation (Fig. I). The radiograph confirms that the femur is short, and the proximal third of the femoral shaft, trochanteric area, neck and head are seemingly absent (Fig. 2). The radiological signs are therefore incompatible

Type II Intertrochanteric Fractures: Proximal Femoral Nailing (PFN) Versus Dynamic Hip Screw(DHS)
Background: Intertrochanteric fracture is one of the most common fractures of the hip especially in the elderly with osteoporotic bones, usually due to low-energy trauma like simple falls. Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) is still considered the gold standard for treating intertrochanteric fractures by many. Not many studies compare the DHS with Proximal femoral nail (PFN), in Type II intertrochanteri...
متن کاملCHILDREN: Avascular necrosis as a complication in the management of developmental dysplasia of the hip
Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the proximal femoral epiphysis is an iatrogenic complication of treatment for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), and does not occur during the natural history of the untreated hip. The objective is to produce a congruous concentric joint and minimize premature degenerative disease and disability during young adult life, by achieving early reduction of the hip ...
متن کاملHip Joint-preserving Surgery for the Mature Hip: the Children’s Hospital Experience
Most osteoarthritis of the hip is associated with chronic abnormal hip mechanics,1 related to potentially treatable anatomic abnormalities.2 The rationale of mechanically-based measures to prevent or treat osteoarthrosis assumes the following: (a) the correctable mechanical abnormality is a major etiologic factor in osteoarthrosis; (b) relief of the mechanical abnormality can prevent or improve...
متن کاملLonger Length of Stay Increases 1-year Readmission Rate in Patients Undergoing Hip Fracture Surgery
Background: Proximal femur fractures are prevalent among the elderly and associated with substantial morbidity, mortality, and early readmission. Early readmission is gaining popularity as a measure of quality of hospital care and canlower reimbursement. A better understanding of the patient and treatment characteristics associated with readmissionmay help inform program improvement initiatives....
متن کامل[Pathogeny and natural history of congenital dislocation of the hip].
Based on a review of the literature, the authors have made a critical study of several etiological factors. Endogenous factors such as acetabular dysplasia, increased anteversion of the femoral neck, capsular laxity support the genetic theory but they are neither constant nor necessary and are only facilitating factors. The major factor seems to be a mechanical one linked to the position in ute...
